I checked with a local merchant and the price was 25 DZD/kilo. That is about $0.13 USD/pound.

Hi Harmony leaf rib is also called cardoon in English. I have not seen cardoons of high quality in Los Angeles.

So Hana, was correct in the name for the veg. Thanks, Farid. I had never dealt with the veg before moving here.

Clifford Wright wrote a paper about the development of cardoons by Arab/Berbers. It is ours certainly. But it is a favorite in Mediterranean cooking. In America it has limited availability. I’ve heard of some Italian grocers carrying it. The local Middle Eastern store has really sad looking ones.
