Work in Algeria - Job Listing

DZ Job Thumb

This job posting caught my attention. It is work that I would love to do, actually. But I don’t exactly have all the qualifications they are looking for. So if you speak French, Arabic, and English well, have marketing and research knowledge and are based in Algeria, then this may be right up your alley. Click here to see the full job listing.

We’ve learned a lot from Algerian antiterrorism experience - El Khabar

Algerian Anti-terrorism Experience Article

US Under Secretary of State for Public diplomacy and Public Affairs, Karen P. Hughes, stressed yesterday that the United States “have learned much” from Algerian experience in fighting against terrorism”.

Although this article doesn’t specify what the US has learned about Algeria’s experience in fighting terrorism, I’d like to guess it has to do with thier zero tolerance methods. And perhaps the fact that Algeria is not overly concerned or critisized about thier methods for erradicating such terrorism. What do you think they learned? You can read the full article here.

Int’l arms trafficking network dismantled in Algeria

Algeria Arms Trafficking Article

An international arms trafficking network was recently dismantled in Constantine, east of Algiers, local media reported on Saturday.

I don’t really know what to make of this news. Constantine is a 2 hour drive East of Setif. I don’t know if I should be nervous or not. Read the full article here.

Algeria signs convention on forced disappearances

Algeria convention

I’ve heard a couple of stories about people who have disappeared in the night due to being suspected of  involvement in extremist groups. I beleive the current president had a brother who disappeared that way, also. I am a bit surprised that Algeria would sign such a convention. Only because they are so determined to keep terrorism at a lull, that I thought they were willing to do whatever it took to keep it that way.

Nedjma doubles mobile subscription in Algeria

Nedjma sales increase

Well, it’s no wonder the mobile phone business is continuing to boom. One, it’s cheap to own and keep service on one. Plus, incoming calls are free. What a deal?! Perhaps part of thier success is the market research projects they have deployed. I have a friend who was involved in surveying people around the city. I’d like to see more companies do this as well.

Setif, Algeria Zoo

Setif, Algeria Zoo A view of the lions cages. The male are seperated from the female and babies. I beleive they are kept on sedatives. The cage is not very thick. And the zookeeper entertains the crowds by going into the cage and trying to stir up the male lion by making loud noises at him. Crazy!

Setif, Algeria Zoo Camel Friendly camel :)
New Tigers at Setif, Algeria Zoo Tigers cage. There were men inside sweeping around the tigers. Very courageous men, I’d say.

Little goat at Setif, Algeria zoo A little goat that managed to escape out of his fenced in area through a space of broken fence. Which they always do, at least everytime I’ve been there.

The zoo, here, in Setif, is very crazy! I always think of a new episode of ‘When animals attack’. The conditions the animals are forced to live in is a Animal Rights nightmare. And they aren’t fed much better. Poor animals.

It cost 50 dinars for 1 adult and 3 children to get in.

What’s for Lunch? -Photo

Algerian Soup and flatbread

Today’s lunch was Hes-u-wa soup with Mat-lu-wa flatbread. The soup is made with homemade noodles, in a sauce containing dried meat, chicken, tomatoe paste, onion, garlic, flat leaf parsley, chick peas, potatoes, lentils, spicy pepper, salt and black pepper. Very delicious!
