10 Million Condoms in Algeria

Condoms in Algeria No Takers For Condoms in Algeria

France24.com Reports:

Algeria has 10 million free condoms to distribute but there are no takers, a senior medical official in the conservative Muslim country said Wednesday.

This is not surprising information. There is not sex education in the schools. And openly talking about sex is still very taboo.

After experts began talking about the benefits of condoms as barriers to spreading HIV/AIDS, the government began soliciting imams to preach about the virus and the risks of unprotected sex during Friday prayers.

Now, why wouldn’t the government support a sex education course instead?? Fear? Fear that young adults would make educated decisions for themselves? I see this as a human rights issue. Algeria has the means for distributing life saving information and protection but they withhold it. For the sake of religion? Sex education and condom distribution will also decrease unwanted pregnancies, as those of us in the free-world know. In Algeria, women are cut out of the family, and in some cases murdered for having babies out of wedlock! Again a human rights issue. Algeria needs to stop living in the dark and start arming their young adults with unadulterated information regarding sex. And start respecting them as adults and people who are accountable for thier own life decisions. They aren’t stupid, as they will attest for themselves.

Imams and Az Zawiyah move to unify marriage customs in Algeria - Echorouk Online

Imam Marriage Algeria

Echorouk Online Reports:

According to an instruction issued by the Algerian Religious Affairs Ministry, imams are not allowed to perform marriage services (to register a fatiha marriage) only if the marriage is registered in wedding registry office.

I thought they had already dealt with this situation. Apparently, there was a problem with marriages going unregistered which left the women unprotected in the case of divorce or death of her husband.

Drug Cultivation in Algeria?

Drug Cultivation in Algeria

Echorouk Online Reports:

According to a survey made by experts in the judicial police, Algerian farmers may become specialists in drugs cultivation in Algeria after security measures were tightened in west and south borders.

Hmmm… I really hope Algeria gets a handle on this problem. It’d really be shame to let this country go in that direction.

A Quiet Revolution in Algeria: Gains by Women - NYTimes

Algeria Women

NYT reports:

Women make up 70 percent of Algeria’s lawyers and 60 percent of its judges. Women dominate medicine. Increasingly, women contribute more to household income than men. Sixty percent of university students are women, university researchers say.

That’s really great to hear. Very inspiring and I just hope that it will give women a unified front when demanding thier rights in Algerian family law.

Setif Dress Shop Photos

wedding dress 1 I just posted some photos of wedding and party dresses found in Setif shops to my new photo gallery. The wedding dresses are made in France. They can be rented for between 5000 - 7000 DZD or bought for around 30000 DZD. Still, looking at them closely, I thought they lacked quality. I don’t know if you could see that in the pics.
