Algeria’s Mobile Phone Numbers To Change… Important Read

Starting February 22nd, 2008 there will be an extra number appended to mobile phone numbers in Algeria. It will be added to the front of the area code. And it will be a duplicate number. For example, if the mobile number is 072-66-65-99, 072 being the area code, then the new number will be 0772-66-65-99. So you just double the number in between the zero and the first number in the sequence.

For international callers you will omit the zero and add 213 to the front. So the new number to dial would be 213-772-66-65-99.

I guess this goes to show that mobile phone use in Algeria is still on the up and up with no plateau in sight. Anyway…

If this is still confusing, feel free to post your questions in the comments.

Calling All Algerian Webmasters and Wannabe’s

DZ Webmasters Group

Do you live in Algeria and have a website or want one? Or do you create Algeria related content on the web? We want you!

Please join my group over at Facebook, Algerian Webmasters.  The group will be geared towards providing resources for Algerian webmasters, newbies and old-hat alike. It will also be used for finding link exchanges, social promotion and much more.

I’ve been thinking of starting it for some time now and just got to it today. My feeling is why aren’t more Algerians using the internet to make some money when so many are struggling to earn so little when they can earn the same amount on the internet with very small time investments. But, there is a learning curve to knowing how to accomplish that. And I just hope that I can help hurry that curve along more quickly and help someone achieve some sort of financial success.

So, if you are interested or know someone who may be, please visit the group’s page and press the join button.

Thanks!

What a great PR idea!

Once again, I had the pleasure of taking my kids to the Florilegio Circus. We did take them last year, too, and it was great. The kids just loved it. Well, anyway, during intermission we went outside with the crowd to grab some snacks. There were some booths set up for product promotion. There aren’t too many family events in Setif for this kind of thing, so I think it’s always interesting to see them. Well, there was a booth for Kiri cheese. Kiri cheese is like the American Philidelphia cream cheese. Yum yum yum! At their booth they were painting kiddies faces with special paint markers and setting them up for a free photo with the Polaroid camera. You can see a photo below of my kiddies(I got a polaroid, but it kind of looks washed-out, so I’m just including my digital pic). I thought it was so smart because what better free publicity than that? All the moms will show their pic off to their friends and family and all receiving Kiri’s smart branding!

Kiri Promo Booth

So, I talked to the booth operator and they are an independant PR company in Algeria. I took their card and thier information is as follows:

Kamel KHELLAL, Conseil en Communication
6, Rue Jean Jacques ROUSSEAU, El-Biar, Algiers, ALGERIA
Tel/Fax: +213-21791085
E-mail: k2c_dz@yahoo.fr
They are a full service provider. They do market research as well as all types of promotion. Here is a pick of the booth operators(they are holding my daughter):

Aren’t they smart?

Oil Money No Cure-All to Algeria Economy

Oil Economy Article Thumb

“The development program is trying to catch up with the infrastructure lag from the 1990s, which is a very good thing,” said Theodore Ahlers, head of the World Bank’s office for Maghreb - the region of Africa north of the Sahara Desert and west of the Nile River.

“But the key is to have a way to ensure strong growth and creation of jobs outside hydrocarbons in the long term, said Ahlers. “The battle is far from won.”

DZ Job Thumb

This job posting caught my attention. It is work that I would love to do, actually. But I don’t exactly have all the qualifications they are looking for. So if you speak French, Arabic, and English well, have marketing and research knowledge and are based in Algeria, then this may be right up your alley. Click here to see the full job listing.
