Ongoing Discussion on Moving to Algeria

I recently added a comment to a discussion over at expatexchange.com. The original poster was asking for information about living in Algeria. One of the questions was about the cost of apartments/places to live. And one answered 120000 DZD. I can’t imagine any Algerian paying that kind of cash for a 2/3 bedroom apartment. Rrgh! Anyway, check out the thread and post a comment here if you like if you want to add a not so relevent response. :)

Economic boom in Algeria - News Article

In this article the engineer they interviewed suggests he will sell cigarettes on the street if he can’t find work. It seems many of the youth have the same idea in mind. I spoke to a teacher here and she says the general ambition of the students is to make money any way they can and not to continue thier education. You can see this plan reflected in the vast number of TaxiPhones(kind of like a glorified phone booth), cigarette stands and coffee shops(and they don’t even sell cappiccinos or lattes). They are quick and cheap businesses to set up. The business owners are willing to settle for the little income they generate. And I say little because there is so much competition.
